This Privacy Policy explains how Fineprint ("Fineprint", "we", "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our website and app at fineprint-app.com (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to this policy. Questions? Contact us at privacy@fineprint-app.com.
Information we collect
- Account information: your email address and a securely hashed password. We never store your password in plain text.
- Documents you upload: images or PDFs of bills, letters, leases, and similar documents you choose to decode.
- Decode results: the plain-English summary, flags, drafts, and chat we generate from your document.
- Optional profile answers: if you answer the optional signup questions (e.g. what you need decoded).
- Usage & attribution data: basic analytics and how you arrived at the Service (referrer / campaign tags) to understand what's working. Stored in cookies described below.
- Payment information: processed by our payment provider (Stripe). We do not receive or store your full card number.
How your documents are handled
When you decode a document, the image or PDF is sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate the result. We do not retain the original file after processing — we store only the decoded results so you can view them later in your account. We do not sell your documents or use them to train third-party models.
How we use information
- To provide, maintain, and improve the Service.
- To process your decodes, drafts, and answers to your questions.
- To take payment for credits and prevent fraud or abuse.
- To understand which marketing channels bring people to Fineprint.
- To communicate with you about your account or the Service.
Service providers we share with
We share limited data with providers who help us operate, including:
- Anthropic — AI processing of your documents.
- Stripe — payment processing.
- Vercel — website/app hosting.
- Neon — secure Postgres database storage.
We do not sell your personal information.
Cookies
We use a small number of cookies:
- A session cookie to keep you signed in.
- A first-touch attribution cookie to record where you came from.
- A preference cookie to remember your light/dark theme choice.
Data retention & your choices
We keep your account and decode results until you delete your account or ask us to remove them. To request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data, email privacy@fineprint-app.com. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA/CPRA.
Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and hashed passwords. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to safeguard your data.
Children
The Service is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
